This antique, finely hand-knotted Sarough rug is exemplary of the high quality that is produced in this small village in the Arak region. It has been inspected and cared for by our experts to guarantee its beautiful condition. This antique rug demonstrates the precious durability of Sarough rugs. It is a real investment, as old Sarough rugs are a rarity and are no longer woven in this way.

Iran/Persia, Arak

Saruk is located north of Arak and is the place of origin for some of the most sought-after Persian rugs today. Ancient Saruk rugs have a very unique salmon like colour that is almost unique among hand knotted oriental carpets. In addition, the rugs are made from high quality sheep's wool, vegetable dyes and are of excellent quality. A genuine Saruk lasts a lifetime.

Highest-grade Wool

Cork wool is sheep's wool from the neck area of the sheep. Wool is a natural material that brings important positive properties to everyday life. It is extremely hard-wearing and easily withstands daily stress. With proper care, it can also last for many decades without showing signs of aging. Cork wool is particularly soft and shiny because it has a higher natural fat content. Therefore, it is usually only used in high-quality rugs.

Knotted by hand

Traditionally hand-knotted rugs still form the highest quality standard among all types of rugs. Depending on the type of knot, the rugs are extremely robust and can last for generations. The finer and tighter a rug is knotted, the more detailed ornaments and patterns can be depicted on the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires a much higher manual effort as well as a higher level of experience and skill of the knotter. Thus the knot density also serves as a decisive value factor of hand-knotted rugs. The quality is not directly related to the knot density. A rather coarse rug may well have been made in excellent quality.
